Startup: Slow boat from China ...

Look at this boat. Big ain't it?

That came all the way from China with a lot of our stock on board. And thanks to the wonders of the Internet we could track it (nearly) all the way here - it's a bit like watching a kettle boil, goes a lot slower when you are paying attention to it.

Now, importing can be a bit of a hassle. HMRC do a big guide with far too many pages in it, but honestly the best thing to do is to get someone to handle it for you. We used Cory Logistics for the entirely good reason that alone among the firms (including some very well-known ones) that we, as new importers,  reached out to, they were the only ones to respond at all, and have continued to be helpful all the way through even in the face of embarrassingly stupid questions from Paul. Plus, they got a really good logo with a dragon on it.

Eventually, after getting inspected by Customs and shipped across the UK, a palletful of stuff turned up:

And all of a sudden it starts to feel like we have a business. Or at least a whole load of stuff to unpack!

12 days to go before we open. Wow.
